I led a party of (44) Senior Scouts and Leaders over the Kokoda Trail in January 1970. Included in our party was a journalist from the Adelaide "News" and three other youths from Port Morseby. Our route was mainly the wartime track. We travelled from north to south and our time was (7) days Prior to Kokoda, we spent two days climbing Mt Lamington Six of the Senior Scouts were (15) years old The party also included (11) Scouts from PNG. We carried all our gear and used army ration packs A PNG Army group of (10) went through the area at the same time as our group and a medical officer was in this party in case we needed assistance. This group travelled seperately as they were completing a health survey in the villages along the trail, but usually camped near us in another village
